About the Chef

homemade-pasta-onlineChef Bob Montano has always been surrounded by food. Like almost every other Italian-American in the New Haven area, he woke up every Sunday to the aroma of simmering tomato sauce on the stove and hand-rolled nests of pasta on the counter. Of course, the two women in the house- Bob’s mother and grandmother- took pride in their food. Unlike almost every other Italian-American, Bob eagerly awoke on Sunday, awaiting the food. At the age of 8, he asked his grandmother and mother to teach him how to cook. Sharing their love of food, Bob applied for a job as a dishwasher in a local restaurant and spent his hours cleaning buckets of squid. The best part of the job, for him, was whatever Italian dish the chefs on the line would prepare for him after work.

Inspired by his experience in both his home and his workplace, Bob studied culinary arts at Johnson and Wales University in Providence. There, he was taught by the same men and women who taught Food Network stars Emeril Lagasse and Tyler Florence, both of whom graduated around the same time as the now-Chef Montano.

While in Providence, Bob met his future wife Dawn. After graduation, Bob and Dawn  moved to Cape Cod, where he would vacation every summer as a kid. There they opened Montano’s Restaurant. In a coastal, seafood based community, their top-selling dishes include Bucatini Al’Amatriciana, a favorite from Amatrice, Italy and other dishes featuring the house-made pasta.

Chef Montano has shared his family’s tradition of making house-made pasta with the residents and tourists of Cape Cod for 25 years. He is excited to be able to share it with you in your home, as his pasta and sauces are now available to be shipped directly to you, wherever you are
